"Williams"

Williams is home to the Grand Canyon Railroad. However, the town was named after an early explorer, actually better described as a "mountain man", named Bill Williams.

The Grand Canyon Railway began its service between Williams and the Grand Canyon on September 17, 1901. The railway, after years of struggling, was closed by Santa Fe Railway in 1974. However, on September 17, 1989 the railway once again resumed continuous service.
